PRESENTING : MARIO

SEATTLE, WA - Mario Layne Fabrizio is proud to present his debut art and music exhibition taking place on June 10th at AXIS Pioneer Square in Seattle, WA. The exhibition will feature over 50 artworks, including oil, wood, NFTs with some available for purchase. In the evening, attendees will be treated to a concert featuring Mario's new band/group, STAR GONDOLA, accompanied by animations of his art. Mario is in the process of partnering with local institutions to bring summer programs to the gallery, give students an opportunity to paint, and talk to students about the process of pursuing their creativity.

Mario Layne Fabrizio was born in 1996 and is originally from South Orange, New Jersey. After growing up playing on the New York scene, he moved to Boston to study drums, percussion at New England Conservatory in Boston. Some of his mentors include Jason Moran, Vijay Iyer, Joe Morris and jazz legends Billy Hart and Cecil McBee.

He has toured throughout South America, Europe and China, was a member of the American Repertory Theatre, and has performed with many notable musicians like Cecil Mcbee, Claudio Roditi, Joe Morris, Nilson Matta, Ali Boulo Santo Cissoko, Jason Palmer and Arturo O’Farrill.

He has received high praise from industry professionals for his creativity, with London Jazz News describing him as "ferocious but subtle," and Steve Smith of On The Record saying he "plays with assurance, charisma, and infectious enthusiasm."In 2020, his experimental music ensemble TROPOS released their debut album "AXIOMS//75 AB," receiving critical acclaim from publications such as The New York Times, FranceMusique, AllMusic, and JazzTimes. Tyshawn Sorey described Mario as "one of the next generation of creative improviser-composers who will only continue to push the music in a forward direction."

While a drummer by trade, Mario has also completed extensive study in composition, poetry and visual art and now cultivates these mediums together to create a unified, fluid art form. His visual art features a blend of surrealist, expressionist, anime-like and abstract works featuring a cast of characters and atmospheres. For his creative interdisciplinary approach to art, Mario has received awards from YoungArts, MASSMoCA, MASS Cultural Council, Assets for Artists, Jack Straw Cultural Center, and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, and has been commissioned by National Sawdust in NYC.
