About this Event
Bald Eagles & Habitat Preservation in Louisville : Presentation by Dana Bove
Dana Bove has dedicated his life to researching and preserving Bald Eagles in our area… and as the Colorado Front Range continues to expand and develop, the natural resources required for these eagles to thrive are becoming scarce.
The Stearns Lake bald eagles are a powerful reminder of some of the challenges faced by nesting bald eagles here in Colorado's northern Front Range. Unlike the areas near the big rivers and stream drainages, these eagles nest farther out in what we call uplands, where suitable old-growth cottonwoods—so important for their survival—are becoming more and more scarce. With Colorado being at least the 5th fastest developing state in the U.S, and with the highest growth within 6 northern front range counties, the large territorial habitats for nesting bald eagles continue to be swallowed up by human development.
The goal of the presentation is to let the Stearns eagles tell you their story from over the last 10 years that we have studied them. Dana will also share his perspective— as someone who has come to know them, and to understand them on a deeper level. Their spirit, their resilience, the bonds they form with each other, and the ways they communicate—it’s truly awe-inspiring.
Dana has been advised to connect with our community about his current Bald Eagle research, and educate us on what we can do to help. He will also be available for conversation and questions directly following his presentation .
