Thursday 1 February 2024 at 6.30 pm
Italian Institute of Culture, Pavilion Hall
He is Sandro Botticelli, one of the greatest artists of the Italian Renaissance, and what we read in the pages of the novel “Sandro” by Johannes Bramante is the story of his life told from his personal point of view. “Sandro” marks the literary debut of Johannes Bramante (Rome, 1990), actor, playwright and theatre director.
Thursday 1 February, at 6.30 pm at the Institute, we will host the author for a discovery, in English, of the life of Sandro Botticelli in Renaissance Florence where Raphael, Leonardo, Verrocchio, Perugino, Ghirlandaio were already operating.
The event is the first of the “History of Style and Costume in Italy” cycle which will see other events in 2024, in Italian language, about the history of design, fashion, television and tourism in Italy.

The author
Johannes Bramante was born in 1990 in Rome. From an early age, thanks to his parents’ work in museums (his father is an art historian and his family is German), he became familiar with art, both ancient and modern. As soon as he finished compulsory school he decided to become an actor and studied acting in Rome and London, later starting to work as an actor for theatre productions and in some roles in cinema and television. Soon the job as a cast member was too tight for him and he founded his own theatre company; he then began to write, moving from actor to playwright: it will be the beginning of a phase of experimentation aimed at merging the ancient and the modern. The step from theatrical text to prose occurred with the publication of his first novel “Sandro”.
A recurring theme in his work is art as an impossible, uncontaminated expression of life, artifice and human creativity as a tragic and vain attempt to overcome the awareness of one’s own finiteness and the finiteness of one’s words. And again: art as an antidote – or even, on the contrary, as sublimation – of the most animalistic impulses of the soul.
