Presentation: Identifying Common Plant Families at Oak Glen Preserve

Join Ranger Charlie as he shows some simple tricks to recognizing the primary plant families here in Oak Glen. Identifying plants can be a daunting task, especially here in California, one of the most biodiverse areas of North America. However, the task becomes much easier if you can narrow your search by grouping plants into their scientific families. While there are many different plant families here in Oak Glen, the majority of flowering plants belong to just eight families, each with distinct characteristics. Learning a few key characteristics for each family makes plant identification easy!
