About this Event
The purpose of this training is to introduce a variety of directive play therapy interventions that can be useful in clinical work, while also addressing the underpinnings and importance of non directive play therapy. The course will highlight how non directive play therapy sets the stage for the potential introduction of directive play therapy interventions. All while, placing the importance of the therapeutic relationship at the heart of both of these modalities. The course will not only be lecture and educationally based, but also incorporate a variety of different hands-on activities that will prepare clinicians to effectively use the new interventions following the training and feel confident in engaging clients with these activities that will be beneficial to therapeutic outcomes.

Learning Objectives:
- Describe the differences between non-directive and directive play therapy
- Assess the client to determine what directive intervention might be appropriate
- Create an intended treatment plan for a current client that includes elements of both non-directive and directive play therapy
- Use directive interventions in their work
- Explain why they are choosing a specific directive intervention Identify why caregiver involvement is necessary.

Registration is fully refundable (minus 5% transaction fee ) 10 or more days prior to the workshop. Less than 10 days prior, eligible for 50% refund. Same day cancellations or no shows are never eligible for a refund. The presenter is not responsible for participant connectivity issues.

Amanda Dixon graduated in 2009 from The State University of New York at New Paltz with her Masters of Science in Mental Health Counseling and went on to obtain her license in mental health counseling. Her work includes working with individuals who have suffered trauma. She maintains a group practice in the Hudson Valley where she oversees LMHC’s & limited permit holding mental health counselors. She is passionate about providing supervision and education to clinicians in the field. She is a registered play therapist and is also trained in a variety of expressive arts modalities, including sand tray therapy and EMDR.
