Canada’s universal health care system is in crisis: poor access to family doctors, excessive wait times for diagnostics and surgeries, and shortages of critical staff and equipment have become hallmarks of a system that Canadians are increasingly fed up with. One IPSOS public opinion poll reveals 85% of Canadians believe it’s time for “drastic” changes to the system.

Prescriptions for Health Reform is a one-day event in Vancouver hosted by SecondStreet.org, the Montreal Economic Institute and the Canadian Constitution Foundation. Taking place September 10th, the conference falls on the eve of a provincial election in a province where health care challenges have been particularly acute.

The conference will feature both international and domestic speakers that will address why other countries with universal health care systems produce better outcomes, what practical policy solutions can be implemented now and how we get over the hump of bridging widespread public support for change against gatekeepers that stick steadfastly to the failing status quo.
