Preparing NC State Students for the Creative Artist Award Submissions
About this Event

This workshop will focus on preparing NC State Students to submit original work for the Creative Artist Award.

To get you ready Univeristy Theatre partnering with Tamara Kissane, former Piedmont Laureate, to explore how to start the play writing process. This 90-min workshop will better prepare you to submit your original one-act play this fall.

No experience is necessary. Be sure to come with something to write with, perhaps a work in progress, and ready to put pen to paper.

About the Creative Artist Award:

The Arts NC State Creative Artist Award recognizes original work in music, dance and theatre created by NC State students. Each winning creative artist(s) receives $500, and the selected work(s) will be performed and/or workshopped in the following academic year by the appropriate Arts NC State performing arts program.

Students wishing to apply for the Creative Artist Award in Theatre can submit an original play in a one-act format; any genre, theme or content is acceptable. The Winning play will be provided script development in the following spring semester and will be produced the following fall semester within University Theatre’s Studio Series.


About the Instructor:

Tamara Kissane has been a playwright in Durham since 2002. Her stage-plays have been produced by both hands theatre company, Little Green Pig Theatrical Concern and Women’s Theatre Festival. Her stage-plays, The New Colossus and Master Builder were commissioned and performed by Little Green Pig Theatrical Concern in 2016 & 2018. She is the host of Artist Soapbox, a weekly podcast featuring original audio fiction and interviews with Triangle/NC artists about their creative process. She has worked with University Theatre at NC State, Manbites Dog Theater, The ArtsCenter in Carrboro, Duke Theatre Studies, Transactors Improv, Summer Sisters, Little Green Pig Theatrical Concern, Archipelago and both hands theatre company.
