Premik Russell Tubbs

Among our world’s most talented multi-instrumentalists, Premik Russell Tubbs, is a virtuoso master of soprano, tenor and alto saxophones, all genres of flutes, as well as lap steel guitar. He is renowned for his brilliance which spans all arenas from jazz fusion to traditional eastern mellifluous melodies, to his own ingenious soul-infused improvisation. Premik is a skilled innovator and prolific artist whose unique approach brings both a cosmic and spiritual vibe to the sound he projects.

In his early years, Premik was greatly influenced by and had the privilege of studying with saxophonists Joe Allard and Ornette Coleman. He is a composer, recording artist, producer, and instructor whose distinctive career has been flourishing for five decades.

He has toured the world, has performed and/or recorded with Carlos Santana, John McLaughlin and The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Whitney Houston, Regina Belle, Sting and Trudy Styler’s Concerts for the Rainforest at Carnegie Hall, Herbie Hancock, Clarence Clemons, Jean-Luc and Clara Ponty, Scarlet Rivera, Ravi and Anoushka Shankar, Krishna Das, Lonnie Liston Smith, Lady Gaga, Elton John, Billy Joel, James Taylor and the list goes on.

Since 2010, Premik is the on-call wind player for Grammy winning producer Will Ackerman, founder of Windham Hill Records, at Imaginary Road Studios. Today, the lyrical beauty of Premik’s alluring and wide range of styles continues to expand and evolve.
Premik now lives in Connecticut, USA, a little over an hour outside of New York City, with his wife and muse, Margee Minier Tubbs. His new recording studio is often where you’ll find him when he’s not playing gigs, teaching students or exploring the beauty of nature, music and spiritual practice.

Premik’s illustrious musical career spans decades and musical styles, collaborating with dozens of top-name artists, from the halls of New York City to epic venues around the globe. Like the man himself, his eclectic, award-winning music bridges East & West, from classic Jazz, Pop & Rock to Indian Ragas and New Age genres. He is equally adept on various instruments including multiple Saxophones, Flutes, Wind Synthesizers and Lap Steel Guitar.

Joining him Premik:

On piano, Emmy-nominated pianist/composer/raconteur Steve Sandberg mashes up classical music, world music and jazz with the excitement of virtuosic improvisation and stories fueled by a lifetime of adventure on the international music scene.

On bass, award winning bassist, Michael O'Brien. Composer. Educator Michael O'Brien studied bass under Anthony Cox, and West African and Haitian percussion under Marc Anderson. Michael has been performing and composing for over a decade with such notables as Gene Pitney, Dave King, Jeff Kashiwa, Todd Reynolds, Wessel Anderson, David Binney, The Jazz Mandolin Project, Joel Harrison, Marty Haugin, Peter Ostroushko, Christian Howes, John Van Ohlen, Hod O'Brien, Stephanie Nakasian, Dan Weiss, Marc Giuliana, Roseanna Vitro, Daniel Kelly, Marc Anderson, Mary Ellen Childs, Bruce Henry, Laura Caviani, Electropolis, Clay Moore, Daniel Alexander Jones, J. His compositions are performed by the acclaimed string quartet Ethel, the Clay Moore trio, the Kelly Rossum Quintet, Electropolis, the April Sellers Dance Collective, and Karen Lyu and Global Jazz, and the list goes on!

On drums & percussion, Todd Isler. Drummer, percussionist, teacher, and author Todd “t.ice” Isler has toured and studied around the globe, soaking up the flavors of Africa, India, Brazil, Japan, and much of Europe, weaving them into his extensive Jazz and Funk background, creating a singular style. He was a winner of the Jazziz Percussion on Fire Award, and the Disc Makers Unsigned Band contest.

Todd has released 5 albums as a leader, two solo albums and three with International Orange. He has played or recorded across genres with musicians including Joe Lovano, Ivan Neville, Mike Gordon, Betty Buckley, Al Kooper, Melvin Sparks, Francis Mbappe, Bakithi Kumalo, Dave Liebman, Steve Turre, Jack McDuff, David Krakauer, and many others. He’s also the author of the critically acclaimed book, “You Can Ta Ka Di Mi This”, which incorporates the South Indian rhythm system to ground and expand one’s beat, now in its second printing. He has utilized these concepts for master classes at The Collective in NYC, NYU, San Fransisco St., and in Rio de Janeiro, and Brasilia, Brazil.
