Prelude to Morgan Freeman’s Symphonic Blues Experience with Sonny Boy Terry

Houston Blues Society is proud to present Sonny Boy Terry performing troubadour style in the Grand Lobby at 6pm for the prelude to Morgan Freeman’s Symphonic Blues Experience on August 7 at The Wortham Theater. Sonny Boy Terry is a Houston blues vocalist, premier harmonica player, and guitarist with a 43-year career rooted in Houston’s rich blues tradition. He has performed and recorded with legendary artists including Johnny Copeland, Joe Guitar Hughes, Grady Gaines, and B.B. King bandleader Calvin Owens, and is featured in Alan Govenar’s Texas Blues: The Rise of a Contemporary Sound.
Terry has appeared on more than 26 albums and is a familiar presence on Houston’s theater stages, from Stages Theater to Miller Outdoor Theater and The Ensemble Theater.
A community leader, he founded the Houston Blues Society and has produced the annual Blues for Food event for 25 years, cumulatively raising over $300,000 and 100,000 lbs of food for the Houston Food Bank.
He is currently developing a Pulmonary Harmonica Therapy program with UTMB and recently earned a certificate in Musical and Sound Therapy from Texas State University.
Sonny Boy Terry is now embarking on a solo troubadour career performing blues, gospel and folk songs, singing, playing guitar, harmonica and cigar box guitars to Texas audiences.
