About this Event
About the Tour: The Warehouse District, often called Cleveland's First Neighborhood, is Cleveland’s 19th century commercial center; the Downtown of that era and Bank Street (now West 6th Street) was Main Street for banks, churches, theaters, newspapers, and hospitality. It's the oldest National Register District in Downton Cleveland.
It was here the beginning of the artists housing movement led to downtown housing conversions which became a learning labratory of Historic Preservation strategies and led to the Alternative Building Codes of the 1980's and establishment of a preservation easement program in 1999. The mix of architecture and scale made this a perfect place for the adaptive reuse that emerged in the 1980s and continues today.
