Audience: High School Students

DATE: Saturdays, September 25, October 2, 9

TIME: 1 PM - 5 PM

DESCRIPTION: Explore the world of an alternative photographic process that does not require a camera or smartphone. Lumen printing is based on a camera-less form of photography called photograms with truly magical results! Students will learn how to create prints by placing objects, flowers, and plants on light sensitive black and white photographic printing paper and exposing it with the sun or a UV light source. You will create a variety of original works through experimentation and the application of a range of techniques.

Techniques explored include, but are not limited to:

  • Using different paper types (expired, multi-contrast, and warm or cool toned)
  • Sprayed and dripped water
  • Humidity from plants and flowers
  • Experimenting with a variety of objects with different shapes and opacity

SUPPLIES REQUIRED:

  • A box with a variety of small objects that range in shape and transparency. Items can be glass, plastic, metal, paper or film. Several items should fit on an 8" x 10" piece of paper to allow for varying compositions.
