Prayers are a groundbreaking cholo goth duo from San Diego, California, known for fusing darkwave, post-punk, industrial-leaning electronics, and raw street-life storytelling into a sound that is entirely their own. Built around vocalist Leafar Seyer, also known as Rafael Reyes, and producer Dave Parley, the project helped define and popularize the term “cholo goth,” creating a bridge between goth culture, Chicano identity, and underground electronic music.

With releases including SD Killwave, Gothic Summer, Young Gods, and Baptism of Thieves, Prayers have built a cult following through brooding synths, driving beats, stark visuals, and lyrics rooted in survival, identity, transformation, and lived experience. Their work has drawn comparisons to artists like Depeche Mode, Christian Death, Skinny Puppy, and Pet Shop Boys while standing apart through its unmistakable cultural perspective and confrontational honesty.

Prayers gained early attention after The Cult’s Ian Astbury invited them to open select tour dates, and their video for “Gothic Summer” went on to earn honors at the San Diego Film Festival. With collaborations and features involving artists such as Kat Von D, Travis Barker, and Shlohmo, Prayers continue to stand as one of the most distinct and influential acts in modern dark alternative music.
