Cloaca Maxima On the 10th of January Natalie and Maja invite you down into a seemingly infinite, sub-level sewage universe. There, beneath our everyday lives, the excess of our consumerism - both material and psychological - gathers a living fatberg, threatening to collapse our comfort from down up. Down there a new creature is bobbling and oozing, birthing a new eerie and potentially threatning intelligence.
We will share thoughts and movement materials from our ongoing project Cloaca Maxima exploring overconsumption and fatbergs in the sewage.
Maja Hannisdal (1989) is a videographer and dance artist based in Oslo. Hannisdal’s work balance between documentation and theatre, the private and public, the beautiful and the grotesque. It revolves around her interest for the seemingly irrelevant, the unwanted and down prioritised, and is concerned with investigating hierarchies within different value systems.
Natalie Price Hafslund (1987) is a British-Norwegian visual artist and writer based between Fjørtoft and Paris. Often linguistic, Price Hafslund’s works interplay between imagination, language, memory and meaning. The improvised aesthetic of her costumes and sculptures explore a constant flow of found material, memory and associations as exquisite debris, which she reassembles to build live experiences that challenge social conventions, such as the seeming binary of gender, age, the notion of ability, the human/animal distinction and power hierarchies.
Together Hannisdal and Hafslund meet in a common interest for power structures, the joys and sorrows of hierarchies, and the uncanny in the everyday.
