Multi-attentiveness practice:
Within this workshop, we will focus on the practice multi-attentiveness. It is a practice I have developed and which has served and evolved in different directions throughout various productions. A core element of the practice is to work with concentration in different ways. By directing concentration towards particular parts of the body, imaginations, words, and images, I am, on the one hand, interested in seeing how concentration, the failing of concentrating and, the search for concentration anew can function as a guiding principle for the development of movement material. But also as a way to create a relationship for how the material could be danced. The practice is used for choreographic productions only and, as I’m currently working on a new piece, we will work with multi-attentiveness with that work.
In this new work, I’m interested in destructive plasticity and the forces that shape our bodies, such as fatigue, lethargy, apathy, drowsiness, and other decelerating conditions. Conditions we often try to hide for ourselves and which society often hides in institutions, behind sick leave and other medical descriptions. Looking closer at their timing, force, “texture” and behavior, I’m interested in their dynamics, how they can inform our bodies and what materiality they can inspire to produce.
Biography:
Rosalind Goldberg works as a choreographer and is currently a research fellow at Oslo National Academy of the Arts. She graduated from the MA in choreography at HZT – Inter –University Center for Dance Berlin October 2014 and from Balettakademien in Stockholm 2007. Her work is built on an interest in the body’s biological and social construction and in methods for exploring the murky water where these reside. Her latest work has focused around the notion of practice as a way to construct different logic systems through which bodies could function. Her most recent works are Fake Somatic Practice (2011), MIT (2013), Jump with me! (2016), Immunsystemet (2017) and Rut (2018). Last year she started a new collaboration with the scenographer Signe Becker and composer Ingvild Langgård with whom she presented the work Still Life at ANTI Contemporary Art festival in Kuopio, Finland. Rosalind Goldberg’s work was invited to Impulstanz festival Vienna, Tanz im August and to a number of venues through Europe. With her work MIT she was nominated to the price Prix Jardin d’ Europe. She is today an associated artist of Weld in Stockholm and Skogen in Gothenburg.
