Then a brief detour to Paris with Poulenc's Flute Sonata: witty, elegant and a little bit cheeky. Exactly what you'd expect from a composer who was once described as having a monk and a street urchin living inside him simultaneously.
We close with Bacewicz's Piano Quintet No. 1, a gripping, intense work by one of the most underrated composers of the 20th century. This is the kind of piece we love to bring you: the sort that makes you wonder why you've never heard it before.
