PRAGUE BURLESQUE – THE VELVET HAMMERBack in 1995, Los Angeles witnessed the rise of one of the first major burlesque revivals: The Velvet Hammer, created by Michelle Carr. This iconic production became a cult sensation, launching the careers of legendary performers like Dirty Martini and Kitten DeVille. Though the show ended in 2006, its impact rippled across the globe—ultimately inspiring the birth of Prague Burlesque. Now, nearly 30 years later, Prague Burlesque pays tribute to this groundbreaking moment in burlesque history with an electrifying new show: The Velvet Hammer.
Founder Sonny Vargas sees The Velvet Hammer not just as a nostalgic homage, but as an intersexual symbol—a striking blend of raw power and velvet sensuality. It’s a bold artistic statement responding to a turbulent world. Through glamour, satire, and spectacle, the show creates a space for joy, freedom, and provocative expression.
Taking the stage this season at The Royal Theatre, the cast includes Monina, Sabrina, Tonic, Miss Cool Cat, and Sonny Vargas himself—joined by the sensational Ritzy Dancers. Together, they shatter the silence and apathy with a performance full of color, love, and unapologetic entertainment.
