Practicing Pre-Trial Therapy: Training for Therapists
About this Event
Practising Pre-Trial Therapy
Join us for a practical and creative in-person training exploring the considerations involved in working therapeutically with a client who is due to attend court.
We’ll explore the practical, legal, and ethical considerations for therapists supporting clients through the pre-trial period. The focus will be on how we can continue to offer thoughtful, client-centred therapy while remaining mindful of the circumstances surrounding the client’s upcoming court proceedings.
We’ll consider some of the particular challenges that can arise in this work, including maintaining clear therapeutic boundaries, working in the client’s best interests, navigating requests for information, and thinking carefully about clinical records and our responsibilities as therapists.
The session will be practical, informative, and discussion-based, with opportunities to reflect on your own practice, explore common dilemmas and share experiences with fellow therapists. While we will acknowledge the relevant legal context, the emphasis will be on good clinical practice, ethical decision-making and supporting the client appropriately through what can be a particularly challenging period.
We intentionally keep our training groups small to allow for plenty of space for discussion, reflection and participation.
