Practice-A-Thon 2023

Practice-A-Thon is an annual fundraiser put on by the music fraternities at Drake University. Students secure a sponsor to pay them for each hour they practice, and then play their instruments or sing as much as they can throughout the week. Students or their sponsors may also choose to give a flat-rate donation at the beginning of the week in lieu of paying per hour. Teams of students compete to see who can raise the most money for the cause.

This year, funds are being donated to the Goodrell Middle School music program, which serves over 200 young musicians in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. Goodrell supplies musical instruments to approximately 95% of their band, yet many of these instruments need to be repaired or even replaced. Funds will also help Goodrell music students purchase necessary band supplies such as mallets, reeds, and music books.

To commemorate a successful fundraiser, participants have a celebration at the end of the week featuring games, a raffle, and even a student concert. If you are a Drake student, we hope you will consider getting involved in this event!
