Hanif Youssef (Syrië,Aleppo 1961)
Hanif Youssef is een van oorsprong koerdische schrijver/dichter uit de omgeving van Aleppo. Hij is als politiek vluchteling in Nederland gekomen in 1994 na een gevangenschap van 4 jaar onder het régime van Assad. Hij schreef in tijdschriften en voor een krant maar werd opgepakt in de jaren '80. Poëzie is voor hem een daad van verzet en tegen allerlei onderdrukking. Zijn werk is de totaliteit van het zijn en zoeken naar de dynamiek van taal.
Van zijn hand verschenen talloze geschriften in het koerdisch en arabisch.De meest recente titels zijn: Tussen één stem en twee stemmen - Koerdisch (2023 uitgegeven bij Atlas in Damascus). Naakte Gedichten - waarvan de Arabische uitgave (Damascus uitgeverij Atlas 2026) dit jaar verschijnt.

Maestro Majed Sarai Edin is dirigent van het Tarab Koor.

Hij heeft zijn leven gewijd aan de muziek, gespecialiseerd in klassiek Arabisch.

In 1988 studeerde hij af aan het Instituut voor Lerarenopleiding, afdeling Muziek, in Damascus. In 1995 behaalde hij zijn diploma aan het Hoger Instituut voor Muziek, met als specialisatie dwarsfluit en het dirigeren van Arabische orkesten. Na zijn afstuderen werkte hij van 1996 tot 2004 als docent dwarsfluit aan het Hoger Instituut voor Muziek in Damascus.

Van 1996 tot 1999 dirigeerde hij het Arabisch Muziekensemble van het Hoger Instituut voor Muziek. Daarnaast was hij tussen 1993 en 1998 fluitist bij het Syrisch Symfonieorkest.

In 2005 richtte hij het Tarab Orkest op. Dit orkest bestaat uit 70 professionele musici en hij is tot op heden de artistiek leider. Met het Tarab Orkest gaf hij talloze concerten in onder meer Libanon, Jordanië, Tunesië, Algerije, Marokko, Bahrein, Qatar, Koeweit, de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten, het Sultanaat Oman en Egypte. Daarnaast werkte hij samen met lokale en Arabische ensembles en met de grootste sterren uit de Arabische muziekwereld.

Door de verwoestende oorlog in Syrië werd hij in 2015 gedwongen alles achter te laten. Om zijn gezin te beschermen, moest hij zijn droom en leven als musicus opgeven.

Toch koestert hij de muzikale droom nog altijd. Hij geeft graag zijn kennis en ervaring door aan nieuwe generaties jonge vluchtelingen en migranten en ieder ander.

Het Open Paviljoen is een plek voor ontmoeting, uitwisseling en verbeelding. Van 13 juni tot en met 19 juli 2026 bieden we ruimte aan een cultureel programma met workshops, gesprekken, performances en lezingen. Lokale initiatieven, nationale stemmen en internationale denkers ontmoeten elkaar in een open setting waarin kunst niet alleen wordt getoond, maar actief onze samenleving vormt.

Hanif Youssef (Aleppo, Syria, 1961)
Hanif Youssef is a writer and poet of Kurdish origin from the Aleppo region of Syria. He arrived in the Netherlands in 1994 as a political refugee after spending four years in Pr*son under the Assad regime. During the 1980s, he wrote for literary magazines and a newspaper, but was arrested because of his activities. For Youssef, poetry is an act of resistance against all forms of oppression. His work explores the totality of human existence and the search for the dynamics of language.

He has published numerous works in both Kurdish and Arabic. His most recent titles include Between One Voice and Two Voices (Kurdish, 2023, published by Atlas in Damascus) and Naked Poems, whose Arabic edition will be published this year (2026) by Atlas Publishing House in Damascus.

Maestro Majed Sarai Edin is of Syrian Origin, devoted his entire life to studying music and was specialised in classical Arabic music.
He Graduated from the Institute of Teachers Preparation, Department of Music in Damascus in 1988, And graduated from the Higher Institute of Music with a specialty in Flute and leading Arab bands in 1995. After graduation he worked as a teacher of the flute at the Higher Institute of Music in Damascus between 1996 and 2004.
He led the Arab Music Ensemble at the Higher Institute of Music for three years (1996-1999)
From 1993 until 1998 he was a member of the Syrian Symphony Orchestra as a flute player.

In 2005, he founded the Orchestra Tarab, The Tarab Orchestra consists of 70 professional musicians and remained its leader until now and held many concerts in: Lebanon, Jordan, Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco. Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Sultanate of Oman, Egypt, with local and Arab teams and with the major stars of the Arab world.
Because of the all-destructive war in 2015 in Syria , he was forced to leave all these things behind. He has sacrificed his dreams and life as a musician to protect his family.

Yet he still has a dream to continue with what he has built up in Syria and to pass on my knowledge and experience to a younger generation of both immigrants and the people here.

The Open Pavilion is a place for encounter, exchange, and imagination. From 13 June to 19 July 2026, we are hosting a cultural programme featuring workshops, conversations, performances, and lectures. Local initiatives, national voices, and international thinkers come together in an open setting where art is not only presented but actively shapes our society.
