Power Trip Preview Dinner Fundraiser

This exclusive event will take place on the eve of the "Power Trip" opening, set amidst the gallery's artworks. Guests will enjoy a first look at the upcoming show, engage with the curator and featured artists, and explore the show's themes. The evening promises lively art discussions with fellow enthusiasts, all while savoring a delightful family-style meal. The format includes a relaxed preview, brief insights from the director and curator, talks by select artists, and culminating in a communal meal and conversation centered around the show. The dinner is a $125 per person, contributing to the show's expenses and enriching our artistic community. We are only selling 25 tickets to this intimate evening, so get your tickets before they sell out.

At the dinner, guests will enjoy a first look at the upcoming exhibit, enjoy a walk through by the curators, and hear a brief introduction to the work of a few of the exhibiting artists. The evening promises lively discussions with fellow enthusiasts, all while savoring a delightful family-style meal prepared by chef Mushi Wooseong James (who is the head Chef and Creative Director at the Djerassi Resident Arts Program).
What is power? “Power Trip” maps the variety of ways artists conceive of power. The work in this show upends traditional conceits and ranges from grand to subtle – exploring the mightiness of softness and the fragility of hard edges through investigations of symbolism, materials, and invocations. These artists create new mystical lexicons by usurping and kludging iconography. They exploit materials to reveal the alchemy of intention.

Unsurprisingly, there are many definitions of power in the dictionary. Power can, after all, be used as a noun, verb, or adjective. The word often elicits images of dominance and violence. Some of the works traverse themes of brutality and rupture, while others navigate notions of “soft” power – the magical, and the sublime. Many of the pieces dance on the line between, exploring juxtapositions and tensions of contrasting forces.

All of the work examines how power manifests as a feeling, object, or idea, and the various paths that promise it as a reward.
