Poverty Escape Room

The Poverty Escape Room is an interactive experience designed to help participants better understand the everyday realities of poverty. This event is offered in partnership with Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation, Black Hills Special Services Cooperative, and higher education collaborators.

Participants step into real-life scenarios that reflect the challenges and barriers individuals and families facing poverty encounter each day.

You will not be asked to “escape” poverty in 90 minutes. Instead, the experience invites you to see whether you could make it through a single day while navigating limited resources, unexpected situations, and difficult decisions.

The experience includes time for guided discussion and reflection. Participants have the opportunity to share observations, ask questions, and consider how poverty impacts individuals, families, and communities. The goal is to build understanding, encourage thoughtful conversation, and explore how we can better support those affected by poverty.
