The inspiration for this class is Day of the Dead, an annual Mexican celebration, and the traditional ofrenda, a handcrafted collection of objects placed at a ritual altar in honor of a person or pet that has passed away. Ofrendas are constructed at home, in village cemeteries and in churches. They include the four elements: water (any drink that was enjoyed by the honored one), earth (flowers, fruits, plants and salt), wind (incense, tissue paper) and fire (candles).
Adriana Sandoval is an art instructor, Mexican muralist and curator of education for the South Florida Day of the Dead Festival.
