We are thrilled to welcome Master Pounamu Carver Te Kaha (Ngai Tūhoe) to Dubai for two cultural experience Pounamu workshops hosted by the iconic Raw Coffee Company in Al Quoz, Dubai. This is a rare opportunity to learn from one of Aotearoa New Zealand's most celebrated and respected pounamu carvers. Workshop numbers are limited so don't hesitate to secure your space for an extraordinary experience that is sure to have a lasting impact!

WHAT IS POUNAMU?
Tangata Rau Whero (indigenous peoples of Aotearoa) have understood the word Pounamu for thousands of years. The rest of the world knows it as Jade or 'greenstone'.
Maori understand Pounamu as a tipuna (an ancestor). As such, we know it to be an extension of the natural world we live in. When we speak of Pounamu, we do not speak of it as an inanimate object.
As a medium, Pounamu allows us to concentrate and focus our abilities. Pounamu can draw negative energy from the person, either wearing or working it. Negativity can come in many forms, but the primary function of Pounamu is healing:
Healing the Tinana (body)
Feeding the Wairua (essence)
Supporting the Mauri (energy)

POUNAMU GREENSTONE WORKSHOPS
2x 1 day Wānanga (Workshops)
Pounamu shape: Hei Roimata
This cultural experience is about creating a connection between the Pounamu (Greenstone), gaining an esoteric understanding of the origins of the Pounamu, the healing nature of the stone and its relationship to the wearer.
Te Kaha shares during the workshop how his ancestors, and modern day people today, participate in and understand the transformative gifts that Pounamu bring to daily life through the use of tikangā (values and practices from Māori knowledge) and kawa (Māori protocols and etiquette), hoanga (fellowship) and orooro (polishing of the pounamu).
During the wānanga Pounamu (workshop) participants learn to tune themselves to their pounamu that Te Kaha has shaped. Participants will be guided to transform their stone, sanding to bringing alive it's true beauty and finish with the whiri (plaiting) of the taura (cord).
Each participant will finish the workshop having finished their own hei taonga (precious) Pounamu. During the course of the workshop participants will also learn the words and meaning of a haka and have an opportunity to perform it and celebrate the culmination of the workshop.
