CONCERT DESCRIPTION
Poulenc's Gloria is known for its surprising mix of secular and sacred music, which both intrigued and shocked audiences when it first premiered. The composer once said that while writing it, he imagined playful angels from Crozzoli frescoes, even picturing them sticking out their tongues. The concert opens with Lili Boulanger’s Of a Spring Morning, a lively and joyful piece. Conductor Jean-Marie Zeitouni, praised for his energetic and passionate style, will lead this vibrant performance. The Milwaukee Symphony Chorus and soprano Joélle Harvey will join for an uplifting evening of music, ending with a gentle and moving final “Amen.”
