Learn the basics of pottery or continue to develop your knowledge of hand-building techniques.
About this Event

During this course you will be introduced to hand-building methods and techniques in ceramics. The tutor will give demonstrations and guide you through each method including pinch pots, slab and coiling. We will reflect on the history of each method and have time to explore and practice the techniques and experiment with different tools.

You will gain confidence with working in clay and be able to make your own work comfortably after finishing the six weeks. At the final session you will be able to finish each piece by experimenting with glaze. It is important to understand that it’s not a course to make perfect pieces of pottery (although that’s great too) but to experiment by making mistakes and discovering what we might be good at.

The classes will be calm and therapeutic, with a relaxed and supportive atmosphere.

The course is suitable for beginners who want to learn the basics of pottery as well as improvers who would like to refresh their knowledge with some support. *If you have already completed the introductory course with Annie she will help you to further your learning and build on your skills.

All tools and materials will be provided but please bring the following: an apron or clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, your own tools if you have them. You are welcome to bring your own own moulds and glazes, but please discuss this with the tutor first. Please note: your work will be fired after the course finishes and will be available for you to come and collect at a later date.

Annie Lyle: I’m an artist specialising in ceramics with eight years experience in the industry. I’ve been teaching for three years in workshop and class environments. I make artwork everyday and I’m dedicated to share the joy I feel making it. I truly believe that everyone is an artist with their own unique gifts. Although, not everyone has had the advantage of being shown or told how to explore the creativity within themselves. This is what has led me to where I am now. I strive to help people express themselves creatively, to give positive feedback and to show people that we really are creative in our own unique ways.
