To celebrate Edger Allen Poe's 217th birthday, we're collaborating with our friends at The Poe Museum for another belated birthday bash! Join us on a dark Tuesday night and hear readings of Poe's works, as well as music from Caroline Scruggs and The Embalmers.

That Midnight Cult of Horror known as The Embalmers emerge from the abyssmal depths around Richmond VA to mesmerize you with shrieking swells of undulating reverb, pulsating waves of snarling fuzz, and the crashing waves of pounding drums. And you won't even need to know the lyrics so you can sing along!

Caroline Scruggs is a thereminist, composer, and explorer of sound whose performances have reached over 15 million viewers on social media. Equally at home in symphonic and experimental settings, she collaborates with ensembles and composers across the U.S. and travels the globe performing in natural landscapes, where the theremin’s otherworldly voice meets the environment. Her 2024 debut solo album, Space, blends acoustic and electronic sound worlds to reflect on the mystical and the everyday, inviting listeners to experience music as connection—to nature, to wonder, and to the unseen.
