Post MFA Meet Up/ Salon

Have you just gotten your MFA and wondering what’s next? Join this meetup and keep your

artistic momentum going. Now that we don’t have the structure of school, it’s easy to feel lost.

Every month, we’ll meet to share work, share ideas, share stories and help each other stay on

track through some structured interaction. Not just crit; continuing to build community.

Latitude will reach out to those who sign up to submit 1-5 images for discussion. These images would be displayed on a projector for group discussion. Feedback time per participant will be based on the number of attendees that evening. Hosts for this evening are recent graduates Hal Shipman and Rob Croll.

Space is limited to 12 participants total so grab your spot early!

BIOS

Hal Shipman (b. 1963; Denton, TX) Hal’s artistic practice is centered around the narrative

power of the family story, his family roots in rural West Texas and his experiences as a gay man,

coming out during the beginning of the AIDS crisis. His work examines the relationship between

photography and writing, adding digital collage elements (largely maps), brushwork with

watercolor and ink, and inkjet transfers. Hal received his BFA from Rice University and his MFA

Studio (Photography) from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Rob Croll (b. 1993; Asheville, NC) is a multimedia artist whose work combines image, text, and

sound to examine the construction and manipulation of meaning. Croll holds a BA from Amherst

College and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he co-organized the

Parlor Room visiting artist series and was awarded the James Weinstein Memorial Fellowship.

Alongside his artistic practice, Croll has worked extensively as a Spanish–English literary

translator and editor; his publications include the three volumes of Ricardo Piglia’s The Diaries

of Emilio Renzi.
