About this Event
What is Open Source Investigative Reporting? What are some of the most cutting-edge tools and techniques employed by digital reporters all around the world?
Join the Post-Logan Symposium Open Source / Open House, hosted by the Human Rights Center at UC Berkeley (HRC), to find out. Building off the center’s pioneering Investigations Lab, HRC and Berkeley Journalism’s Investigative Reporting Program (IRP) have launched the country’s first open source investigative reporting course and are now partnering to showcase some of the latest open source journalism stories and investigative techniques at their second annual Open Source / Open House.
Held on April 30, 2023, the event is a world-class convening of journalists, investigators, and open source experts coming together for a series of lightning talks that demonstrate the most cutting-edge innovations in digital open source investigations.
Lightning Talks include (but are not limited to):
- Collagen, Deforestation and Indigenous Rights in Brazil: A Supply Chain Story: Elisangela Mendonca (Rainforest Investigations Network)
- Unraveling Facts Through 3D Modeling: Anjali Singhvi (New York Times)
- Managing the Deluge, Digital Reporting in Ukraine: Jeannie Ohm (Associated Press) and Brad Samuels (SITU Research)
- The Prigozhin-Wagner Files: the challenge of authentication in a high-volume, anonymously-sourced leak: Mattathias Schwartz (Insider)
