Rizzoli Bookstore is delighted to host Jou-Yie Chou, Leigh Salem, and Ruben Caldwell, founding partners of Post Company, to celebrate the new book, a beautifully illustrated monograph conveying the firm's signature projects. The conversation will be moderated by Spencer Bailey, followed by a signing.

An immersion into Post Company’s seductive, soothing, and convivial contemporary interiors

Over more than a decade, the award-winning multidisciplinary firm Post Company has redefined hospitality with interiors that feel effortlessly lived-in, deeply crafted, and illuminated by a signature warmth. This beautifully illustrated monograph features sixteen remarkable projects that reveals the full breadth of the studio’s work: best-in-class boutique hotels, impossibly elegant restaurants, and, more recently, spectacular private homes. Together, the projects reveal that Post Company approaches every room with the same devotion to nuanced detail, material integrity, and timeless style.

Projects include Raf’s, a Manhattan restaurant evoking a European café with tiled floors, plush banquettes, a lamplit bar, frescoed ceilings, and smoked mirrors – one of the most beautiful rooms in New York, and emblematic of the studio’s ability to bridge classic sensibility with contemporary life. Inness, a boutique hotel and members club in the Hudson Valley, unfolds in a hushed palette of natural woods, textured fabrics, and Shaker-inspired forms. Public spaces glow with antique farm tables, rush-seat ladder chairs, and walls painted in enveloping shades of ocher and olive.

It is no surprise that guests of Post Company’s public spaces, captivated by the atmosphere, have increasingly commissioned the firm to design their own residences. These homes appear in the book, demonstrating how the studio translates its hospitality principles of graciousness, comfort, and craftsmanship into intimate personal spaces.

Filled with gorgeous, transporting photography of each project, Post Company: Character Studies proves that what makes a room welcoming, chic, and memorable transcends typology and resides instead in the thoughtful, human-centered design that defines Post Company’s work.

Jou-Yie Chou, Founding Partner

Jou-Yie Chou brings a deep background in experiential branding to his work at Post Company, which shapes his belief that the way a space is activated – through objects, art, people, and programming – is just as important as its design. Prior to founding Post Company, Jou-Yie served as Brand Director of Ace Hotel Group, where he led brand direction, product design, new development selection, and strategic partnerships. He previously worked at Neverstop, a niche marketing agency specializingin branding, experiences, and events for clients including Nike, Microsoft, Wieden +Kennedy, and Uniqlo. Jou-Yie is a graduate of Colorado College and lives in Lakeville, Connecticut, with his family.

Leigh Salem, Founding Partner

Leigh Salem's prior experience working for internationally renowned design firms informs his practice designing everything from interiors to visual identities. With a balanced background in fine arts and business, he employs his broad knowledge of architectural and aesthetic styles to the benefit of Post Company projects. He receivedhis undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College and his Masters of Architecture with honors from Columbia University. He also holds an MBA from NYU Stern School of Business with a focus on real estate and entrepreneurship.

Ruben Caldwell, Founding Partner

With his deep knowledge of carpentry, construction, and fabrication, Ruben Caldwell plays a pivotal role in driving projects from concept through execution. His expertise ranges from contemporary construction and fabrication techniques to traditional, handmade woodjoinery, grounding his work in a close understanding of how things are made. Ruben received his undergraduate degree in history from Colgate University and his Master of Architecture from Columbia University. He has served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Architecture at Columbia and an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Arizona, where he led the school’s design-build studio.

Spencer Bailey is founder and editor-in-chief of the New York–based media company The Slowdown and host of the Time Sensitive podcast. He is also editor-at-large of book publisher Phaidon. A writer, editor, and journalist, he has written at length about architecture, art, culture, and design, and has contributed to publications such as Town & Country, The New York Times Magazine, Bloomberg Businessweek, and Fortune. Currently, he is overseeing the editorial direction of a five-volume book series celebrating The Leading Hotels of the World. From 2013 to 2018, Bailey was editor-in-chief of Surface magazine. He serves on the board of trustees of the Noguchi Museumin Long Island City, New York, and has been featured on theWallpaperUSA 400 list asa curator “preserving and promoting creative culture."
