ALMO & Júlio Resende present a unique and innovative concept where the excellence of the creative and improvising ability of the pianist and composer Júlio Resende joins the interpretive talent of the singers (tenor) and (baritone). In a perfect symbiosis between jazz, improvisation and singing, together they seek a differentiating sound that lives up to the essence of Fado and Portuguese Songbook without being exclusively and intrinsically linked to jazz and lyrical aesthetics.
ALMO, which derives from the Latin “almus” (an adjective that poetically qualifies the one who cares; the one who creates; creator), names the “journey” that the two singers decided to take on a path of freedom in search of space to rediscover the soul of Fado and the Portuguese Songbook. And don’t go alone on this creative adventure. It is with the hands of the pianist Júlio Resende that they sing the essence of Portuguese music.
is a remarkable Portuguese pianist and composer. “What Júlio Resende does with Fado reminds me of what Keith Jarrett does with jazz standards.” says “El País” (Spain). He started playing the piano at age 4, considering it, right away, his “favourite toy”. Resende pioneers a unique and innovative musical genre called “Fado-Jazz”. He is one of the most internationally recognized Portuguese musicians, having published nine albums. His improvisation techniques are transversal to his aesthetics and articulate different musical genres, including Jazz, Fado, and Classical Music – he has a duet with the fabulous Maria João Pires and even Electronic Music.
