If you were to believe the stories, Death seems pretty easy to outwit. Or maybe he’s just more tender hearted than one would think.
Come let Storytelling Crones, Anne Penfound, Pam Maben, Barbara Fankhauser and Julie Strozyk tickle your funny bone as they dance with death in his many guises. From the promise of new shoes, to a rollicking birthday bash, you’ll never think of death in quite the same way.

Tellers’ Bios:
Pam Maben
Once upon a time there was a girl who loved stories. Stories of flying carpets and princesses and adventures in dark forests. She grew up to be a librarian and storyteller so she could share these realms with others. In time she became a crone pondering stories of the mysteries, marvels, and adventures later life brings in preparation for its eventual, inevitable conclusion.
Barbara Fankhauser
From the time Barbara’s father introduced her to Goldilocks and the three bears stories grabbed her and never let her go. She began to telling stories the first time she got into trouble, leading her to a life in advertising copywriter where they actually paid her to tell stories. When she found the Portland Storytellers Guild back in 1989, she knew she’d found “her people”.
Anne Penfound
Anne presents a unique oral interpretation of original stories and multicultural tales which have inspired audiences since 2001. Her style and quirky British humor, facial expression, voice and gestures take you right to the heart of the story. Storytelling influences Anne’s onward journey as a Crone with exciting possibilities. New stories to craft and tell, a personal narrative, or a century old folktale, bring joy and energy to her life.

Julie Strozyck
Julie's long career in storytelling stretches from telling “scary stories” to her 6th grade classmates to enthralling Portland audiences with her embodiment of the folkloric character, Baba Yaga. Julie enjoys telling traditional, historical and personal tales that touch the heart and “give it a little squeeze”.
