An evening of storytelling and songs about the longing for true love and the depths of soul
About this Event

Join storytellers, ritualists, and musicians Boe Huntress and Rainer Baumorr for The Labyrinth of Love, a project that reckons with the search for belonging, connection, and love amidst the maze of modernity.

On August 3rd, we’ll tell the myth of Eros and Psyche in a unique weaving of devotional storytelling and original songs by Boe, which will amplify and emphasize key themes in the myth. During and after the telling, we will invite the practice of “feeding the story,” which invites participants to share resonant images from the story. By feeding the story, we regard and connect to it as an animate being that moves and nourishes us long after its telling. Come ready to receive, dive deep, and be enchanted by the wonder of archetypal myth and song.

The myth of Eros and Psyche is a tale of finding love, and the obstacles we may encounter along the way.

"During my (Boe's) journey of becoming aware of my attachment patterns this myth spoke deeply to my own experiences. For example, there’s a moment in the story when Psyche fully realizes her love for Eros, and of course this is the very same moment that he flees. I have experienced being both the one who flees from love (avoidant), and the one who is abandoned by it (anxious). Whichever position you hold in this painful dynamic, the end result is the same: a lack of intimacy - never being able to actually come together equally in love. This makes sense if your early experiences of intimacy involved some kind of neglect, abandonment or confusion, as mine did. Love and pain became synonymous and, as such, something to avoid in order to remain safe."

In the story, Psyche has to go on a quest to achieve the kind of safe intimacy that she longs for, and has maybe never experienced before. She has tasks to complete and, indeed, so does Eros.

Just hearing this story can initiate an unraveling in the psyche (soul), because stories work in this way, speaking to the parts of us that rational words cannot. The language of the soul is symbology, and stories are rich in these, giving us doorways by which to enter our own lives in ways that reverberate into transformation.

In these tellings we will also use the haunting live music of UK artist Boe Huntress as another way to resound and vibrate within the soul and body.

This event will be held outdoors in Mount Tabor Park. We will be gathering at Mount Tabor Amphitheater, please arrive by 6.45pm at the location we will email to you (near a parking lot and restroom).

You can expect a well-woven container that carries you into the realm of story—and, if fortune smiles upon us, toward a deeper understanding of your own initiatory journey.

This telling is part of a bigger offering called The Labyrinth of Love. We will be holding a 3-month online course beginning in October to further deepen and explore this work. Details here: https://www.boehuntress.com/home/labyrinthoflove
