Οι David Shaw And The Beat εμφανίζονται για πρώτη φορά στην Αθήνα για ένα σκοτεινό live που θα βάλει φωτιά στο dancefloor.
Στη μάχη μεταξύ της χλιαρής και της ενστικτώδους, αγνής μουσικής, οι David Shaw And The Beat είναι προφανές ότι ακολουθούν τον δεύτερο δρόμο με μία μουσική που πηγάζει από την ψυχή και θεραπεύει το προσωπικό χάος. Γεννημένος στο Μάντσεστερ και βαθιά επηρεασμένος από τις αντικουλτούρες που διαμόρφωσαν την εφηβεία του (rave-punk-garage-techno-new wave-post punk), ο Shaw έχει θέσει ως αποστολή του την δημιουργία μουσικής που ξεπερνά τα τετριμμένα. Στο παρελθόν, έχει ασχοληθεί με την παραγωγή ηλεκτρονικής μουσικής υπό το ψευδώνυμο Siskid, έχει συμμετάσχει στο άλμπουμ Burn Your Own Church των Black Strobe (Beggars, 2007) και έχει συνεργαστεί με την Jennifer Cardini και τον Vitalic. Αυτά τα έργα γεννήθηκαν από μια αίσθηση επείγοντος, μια επιθυμία να αντισταθεί στη ροή του χρόνου και να αναδείξει μια συνεχώς αυξανόμενη διπλή φιλοδοξία: τη σύνθεση τραγουδιών και την παραγωγή. Συνδυάζουν όλα όσα έκαναν το προηγούμενο έργο του να λάμψει: τη λεπτή ισορροπία μεταξύ κιθάρας, πλήκτρων και “μηχανών”, την πανκ ενέργεια και τα κολλητικά ρεφρέν. The Man From On High/Gerard Papasimakopoulos - Πολυτάλαντος από επάγγελμα και κατ’ επιλογήν DJ τη νύχτα, ο Gerard είναι συνήθως αυτός που θα παίξει ένα κομμάτι που δεν έχει καμία σχέση με το πλαίσιο, αλλά με κάποιο τρόπο βγάζει νόημα. David Shaw And The Beat are performing in Athens for the first time for a dark live show that will set the dance floor on fire.
In the battle between lukewarm and instinctive, pure music, it’s clear that David Shaw And The Beat follow the latter path with music that springs from the soul and heals personal chaos. This is the brainchild of an artist for whom there is no plan B, no compromises—only the need to pour his very being into a recorded work that stands out as one of the most personal and incendiary on the contemporary scene.
At this stage, David Shaw is in top form. He’s charging ahead, blending goth punk vocals with minimalist acid, somewhere between Bauhaus and The Gun Club locked away for hours in a dark underground club. Authentic, impulsive, risqué but never vulgar, he has established himself as one of the most incendiary composers and producers on Europe’s contemporary new wave and electronic scene. On stage, David Shaw And The Beat dominate venues without mercy, and that’s exactly what they’re going to do in Athens, at ILION Plus, on Friday, January 15.
Born in Manchester and deeply influenced by the subcultures that shaped his adolescence (rave, punk, garage, techno, new wave, post-punk), Shaw has made it his mission to create music that goes beyond the ordinary. In the past, he has produced electronic music under the pseudonym Siskid, contributed to Black Strobe’s album *Burn Your Own Church* (Beggars, 2007), and collaborated with Jennifer Cardini and Vitalic. He then took a more underground turn with David Shaw And The Beat. Their debut album, So It Goes, was a masterful blend of techno and new wave. Shortly after, he founded DBFC, a hidden gem of a band that celebrated the sounds of the Madchester scene.
A punk at heart and a de facto iconoclast of club music, David Shaw has assimilated his influences while distancing himself from musical cliques and even from the very concept of crossover. His powerful, all-encompassing aesthetic universe has also captivated the fashion world. His tracks regularly accompany creations by renowned fashion houses and designers such as Hermès, Chanel, Gucci, and Lanvin. Emotional, proud, and sharp, David Shaw And The Beat’s compositions reached a new dimension with the release of “Love Songs With a Kick Vol. 1” in 2020: a collection of tracks blending synth-pop and post-punk from Manchester’s run-down neighborhoods. Far from resting on his laurels, David Shaw let his inspiration flow following this new creative milestone.
Over the past years, he has composed and recorded approximately 40 tracks, 16 of which are now included on two albums: “Love Songs With a Kick Vol. 2 & 3.” These works were born out of a sense of urgency, a desire to resist the passage of time and to highlight an ever-growing dual ambition: songwriting and production. They combine everything that made his previous work shine: the delicate balance between guitar, keyboards, and “machines,” the punk energy, and the catchy choruses. Now more liberated than ever, he explores and subverts pop songwriting, leading it down unexpected paths with an approach that seems unclassifiable and playfully suggestive.

Focusing on exploring the dance floor’s sonic aesthetic from a more “left-field” perspective without letting the rhythm lose its beat, Driving In Reverse hopes to see people moving to sounds they might not usually dance to and surrendering to a haze of dance vibrations without Shazam. And all this with a secret recipe of diverse musical hues from the digital underground.

Pene/Thanasis Besinis - Whenever you hear a slow, pounding groove coming from an Athenian club, it usually means that Pene is behind the turntables. Owner and DJ of the popular Radar, Pene continues to set the tone at various turntables throughout Athens and beyond, while also running his own clothing label, Reigning.
The Man From On High/Gerard Papasimakopoulos - A multi-talented professional by day and a DJ by choice at night, Gerard is usually the one who’ll play a track that has absolutely nothing to do with the context, yet somehow makes sense. As the frontman of the now-defunct darkwave duo Rattler Proxy and also of Berlin-based Modern Ruin, his love for late ’70s and early ’80s New York colors most of his sets.

Focusing on exploring the dance floor’s sonic aesthetic from a more “left-field” perspective without letting the rhythm lose its beat, Driving In Reverse hopes to see people moving to sounds they might not usually dance to and surrendering to a haze of dance vibrations without Shazam. Pene/Thanasis Besinis - Whenever you hear a slow, pounding groove coming from an Athenian club, it usually means that Pene is behind the turntables. Owner and DJ of the popular Radar, Pene continues to set the tone at various turntables throughout Athens and beyond, while also running his own clothing label, Reigning.
The Man From On High/Gerard Papasimakopoulos - A multi-talented professional by day and a DJ by choice at night, Gerard is usually the one who’ll play a track that has absolutely nothing to do with the context, yet somehow makes sense. As the frontman of the now-defunct darkwave duo Rattler Proxy and also of Berlin-based Modern Ruin, his love for late ’70s and early ’80s New York colors most of his sets.
