Join us for the Porch Party at Butterworth Center & Deere-Wiman House September 18th from 12 to 5 pm. Event is rain or shine with activities and music moved inside with rain.Grab your lawn chair and join the party with a line-up of live musicians playing throughout the day on the west porch of Deere-Wiman House, and the gazebo in the gardens of Butterworth Center. Music begins at noon with the Tegeler Jazz Trio followed by the Big Top Circus Band on the porch of Deere-Wiman House. And at noon from Iowa City, Flash in a Pan will be playing in the Butterworth Garden gazebo.
11th Avenue food trucks will serve up a variety of fun, festive and spicy food. Eat in Butterworth Center or use our stand-up bistro tables on the terrace or in the garden.
Drop-in to ask the expert with our historic preservation series in the Deere-Wiman House. Additional talks will be in the Carriage house by local preservationists.
Gretchen Small, Director of Programs and Collections, will share in the Butterworth Center Library on the history of the Deere-Wiman House as we celebrate its 150th year. Listen to an organ performance in the Butterworth music room. Enjoy a piece of anniversary cake as we celebrate the long history of the home in our community.
Go underground with the Butterworth Center tunnel tour leading you from Butterworth Center to the Education Center where you can tour the second-floor apartment. Scavenge digitally for fun facts of our historic site and get swag in exchange!
Arts and cultural organizations will be on hand to share their crafts and engage you in an activity. This will include antique and classic cars by local car clubs.
