Dont Rhine of the LA Tenants Union on the role of popular education in the movement for tenant power
About this Event

Founded in 2015, the Los Angeles Tenants Union is a bilingual Spanish-English movement of 3,000 members based in 13 local chapters across the city. LATU has reversed illegal evictions, won repairs, organized successful rent strikes, and built a membership committed to the long-term project of tenant power. Central to LATU’s work is a commitment to popular education: processes of group inquiry and listening through which members collectively develop an analysis, a political vision, and a strategy. Dont Rhine will lead a conversation on the role of popular education in the LA Tenants Union and the movement for tenant power.

Dont Rhine is a popular educator and a co-founder of the Los Angeles Tenants Union, the Los Angeles needle exchange Community Health Project / Clean Needles Now, and the international popular education collective Ultra-red.

Tracy Rosenthal is a co-founder of the Los Angeles Tenants Union and co-author of Abolish Rent, forthcoming from Verso.
