Poppies in the Park Workshops: Seed Bombs w/ Miridae Mobile Nursery
Join California State Parks and Miridae Mobile Nursery for a FREE hands-on workshop series that highlights the importance of native plants and how you can naturally incorporate them into your home or community gardens using easy-to-make seed bombs.
In this 1-hour workshop led by Grace Amico, owner of Miridae Mobile Nursery, you will learn how to create seed bombs from scratch, care for them to ensure sucsessful growth, and about the benefits of incorporating native plants in landscaping. Each participant will receive enough supplies to make a seed bomb in the shape of a poppy, a bear, or even the State of California! Native plants will also be available for purchase.
State Park interpreters will also be present to discuss the cultural signifigance of poppies in our state and their role supporting local ecosystems.
Space is limited to 23 people per workshop. Recommended for ages 9 and older.
Advanced registration is encouraged but not required. Only registered guests will receive activity supplies. Unregistered guests will have access depending on availability.
This workshop is provided FREE to the public by our nonprofit partner, the California Indian Heritage Center Foundation (CIHCF). A suggested $5 donation is encouraged. Donations help support this and future programming at the State Indian Museum (SIM)!
More about Miridae:
The Miridae Mobile Nursery is a box truck-turned California native plant pop-up nursery. It travels all over the Greater Sacramento Region with the goals to: improve accessibility of California native plants in the Sacramento region, offer education about native plants and their benefits, and grow awareness and respect for our native ecosystems.
Grace Amico is the owner of Miridae Mobile Nursery and longtime supporter of special events at the SIM. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Horticulture at UC Davis, where she cultivated an admiration for California’s diverse native plants and landscapes. Grace is happy to talk native plants with anyone and finds the Mobile Nursery to be a unique and fun method of bringing that conversation to a variety of people.
