Join us for Pop-Up University at LangLab as Composer Jorge Muñiz presents "Solidarity Symphony - An Evening of Music, Poetry, & Community-Building"This 90-minute multimedia event showcases Solidarity Symphony (Symphony No. 3) by composer Jorge Muñiz, a powerful musical interpretation of the first four chapters of Pope Francis’s encyclical Fratelli Tutti. Each of the symphony’s three movements is paired with a thematically resonant poem—by Maya Angelou, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Langston Hughes—and a reflection on the corresponding chapter of the encyclical.
The program unfolds in three segments, each featuring a poetry reading, commentary on the encyclical’s message by David Cloutier (Professor of Moral Philosophy at the University of Notre Dame), and a performance of the musical movement. Together, these elements invite the audience to explore themes of human dignity, injustice, solidarity, and hope through the lens of art, faith, and civic reflection. The evening concludes with space for written reflections and final thoughts from presenters and participants.
Come early to purchase food and drinks from the bar. Stay late to network and socialize. FREE & OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.
