Teachers in the District may have a Temporary Certificate, a Professional Certificate, or a District Vocational Certificate. For Temporary or Professional Certificate eligibility information, please see the information listed below. For District Vocational Certificate eligibility information, please choose the District Vocational Certification menu item on the left.

***NEW CERTIFICATION INFORMATION***

5-year Temporary Certificate for Military Veterans

Per Senate Bill 896 military veterans who have not yet earned their bachelor's degree and who meet the following criteria are eligible for this certificate:

Minimum of 48 months of military service with an honorable/medical discharge

Minimum of 60 college credits with a 2.5-grade point average

Passing score on a Florida subject area exam. Click here to register for a subject area exam.

Visit the Florida Department of Education's website to view this information and to complete a waiver request for certification fees.

Once you meet these criteria, you can apply to our website to teach.

Temporary Certificate Eligibility (options)

Bachelor's degree with a major in the content area.

Bachelor's degree with a passing subject area exam score.

Bachelor's degree with required courses and 2.5 GPA in the content area.

Professional Certificate Eligibility (options)

Valid Standard Certificate issued by another state.

Valid Certificate issued by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).

Florida State-Approved Teacher Preparation Program and Passing Florida Certification Examinations.

Out-Of-State Teacher Education Degree Program and Passing Florida Certification Examinations.

Educator Preparation Institute Program and Florida Certification Examinations (Palm Beach State College has a program).

Two semesters of college teaching experience and passing the Florida Subject Area and Professional Education Examination.

Industry Certification

The District hires individuals with industry certification for specific positions. Information regarding the industry certification needed for those positions will be available in the Job Description linked to the advertised position.

Transcripts

U.S. Degrees:

Required education and/or degrees must be earned from an institution accredited by an organization recognized by SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) and CHEA (Council for Higher Education Accreditation) at the time the degree was earned. Please visit www.SACS.org, www.cognia.org, and/or www.CHEA.org to determine if your educational institution is accredited or was accredited at the time the degree was earned.

Transcripts may be sent electronically by the college/university to [email protected] or uploaded to your applicant profile.

Please Note: Candidates applying to a teaching position who have not sent their transcripts to the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) must mail or hand-deliver official transcripts in a sealed envelope to the Department of Recruitment and Retention.

Foreign Degrees:

Applicants with academic training and degrees granted outside the United States MUST submit a credential evaluation report that includes a statement of degree equivalency and a breakdown of the coursework and semester-hour credits. An accredited two or four-year college or university in the U.S., or a credential evaluation agency can provide this report. A partial list of approved agencies is found at www.naces.org.
