ORCA is studying the transfer of toxins and toxicants from the Indian River Lagoon to humans and animals by testing fish from the lagoon and surrounding waterways.
At this pop-up fish processing citizen science workshop, volunteers will be shown how to properly dissect and prepare a fish to be processed for analyses. Feel free to BYOF -bring your own fish- or process one of ours.
A few things to remember if you are bringing fish to process:
-Keep fish whole and on ice (or keep frozen)
-Make sure it is legal and in season
-Label with date, time caught, and location (GPS or if you don't want to give away your favorite fishing spot, view our county sector maps here: https://www.teamorca.org/citizen-science-data-display.html )
-Fish should be from Indian River Lagoon and connecting waterways.
