About Cardinal Müller
Gerhard Cardinal Müller is recognized as one of the foremost theologians and defenders of Catholic orthodoxy in the modern era. He served as Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith from 2012 to 2017, overseeing the Church’s doctrinal integrity under Popes Benedict XVI and Francis. A member of the Supreme Tribunal of the Apostolic Signatura and a Cardinal Elector in the conclave that elected Pope Leo XIV, Cardinal Müller continues to be a leading voice for the unity of faith and reason and the renewal of authentic Catholic theology.
Before his work in Rome, he was Bishop of Regensburg and Professor of Dogmatic Theology at the University of Munich, where he gained international respect for his scholarship and pastoral leadership. He is the editor of Pope Benedict XVI’s complete theological works (Opera Omnia) and the author of more than forty books and hundreds of articles, including Dogmatic Theology, The Power of Truth, and The Catholic Priesthood. His writings emphasize the continuity of Church teaching, the indissolubility of marriage, and the moral and cultural vitality of the Gospel in modern society.
Cardinal Müller previously visited Ivy Hall in September 2024, delivering his lecture “The Magisterium in the Life of the Church.”
