Long-time New Orleans musician and music historian Michael Hurtt has been simultaneously showcasing his own country soul songwriting and bringing to light Louisiana’s often-overlooked string band music heritage for three decades. Profoundly inspired by artists such as West Monroe's the Lonesome Drifter, Cajun rockabilly sensation Jay Chevalier and Piney Woods bluegrass evangelist Luke Thompson, Hurtt and his New Orleans Night Howlers have developed a style that traces the countrified canon seamlessly from hillbilly blues to honky-tonk to western swing, all delivered with a bristling, often jazz-like approach that echoes the blurring lines beginning with ragtime and stretching all the way to the birth of rock ’n’ roll.
