THE APOCALYPSE WILL BE TELEVISED! This Halloween season we offer a trifecta of horror about the power of media beginning with the iconic classic Poltergeist (1982). Live performance before the film by MONG TONG, a Taiwanese psychedelic whose music is heavily influenced by Southeast Asian culture, including its mythology and folklore, as well as 60s and 70s psychedelic music,. Their sound is characterized by hypnotic rhythms, dreamy melodies, and otherworldly atmospheres.

“Theyyyy’re heeeere…”
Poltergeist is the story ghosts invading the home of the “average” American 1980s family through the portal of their television. What places the film among the top tier of horror after all this time is its perfect balance of focusing on the fear and beauty of the unknown while also demonstrating the potential menace flowing within the dark undercurrent of suburbia, an illusion of stability literally built over the graves of the forgotten. The film’s legacy some 40 years later is also often wrapped up in controversy. Due to the tragic deaths of young actresses Dominque Dunne and Heather O’Rourke, the film often gets lost to Hollywood superstition. Poltergeist also has mystery surrounding its true authorship. Poltergeist was credited to Texas Chainsaw Massacre director Tobe Hooper, but by now it’s common knowledge that Steven Spielberg was, so to speak, a ghost director.
MONG TONG was formed by brothers Hom Yu and Jiun Chi. The name "Mong Tong" is derived from the brothers' childhood nickname, which can mean something totally different in different languages from Burmese, Cantonese to Chinese.
