Polotechnics channels cosmic vibes in honour of the vernal equinox and Nowruz with fresh sets in deep house and techno infused with global rhythms by Salar Ansari (Detroit/Tehran) and Afrooz (Vancouver/Tehran) with local support by Emissive to build up some heat.
Known for his signature blend of house techno and Persian rhythms award-winning DJ and producer Salar Ansari is also co-founder of Feeder Loft. His live PA performances using a mixer and outboard effects can adapt to the room. Spinning prolifically locally while touring internationally this is his third engagement with Link Music Lab.
Raver-first Afrooz is a DJ and visual artist based in Vancouver with influences as diverse as the late tar virtuoso Jalil Shahnaz to Wu-Tang Clan. She shares music that reaches deep into the psyche and swings into a playful percussive upward spiral of sound.
Emissive (Evan Jamal Vincent) is an electronic music DJ and producer who draws influence from forward-thinking ‘90s electronic music innovation bringing it through a mutated prism of contemporary sound design approaches. His label earthNetwork is a home for various collaborative efforts and he is one half of the production duo Active Surplus.
Polotechnics shines a light on international and local artists from the Iranian diasporic underground shifting and broadening perspectives of Asian electronic music. From high-energy dance beats to contemplative sound art Link Music Lab’s series invites a range of genres such as EBM electro techno acid and all things synth. Polotechnics is a portmanteau of “Technics” the Japanese brand name for a line of high-end audio equipment and the Persian word for rice also polo aiming to nourish the soul by expanding perceptions.
