Please join the buzz at the Terre Haute Children’s Museum on Saturday, June 22 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to learn about the lives of pollinators! Pollinator Palooza will offer multiple tables of activities, including:
• Play the Monarch Migration game. Did you know a Monarch butterfly can fly up to 100 miles in a day?
• Match the pollinator to the flower.
• Look inside a tree to see honey bees at work.
• Check out the three different types of butterflies and caterpillars in the butterfly house!
• Create a take home mason bee house or/and a butterfly feeder.
• Learn how the bees do the waggle dance to direct others to flower patches, and find out if you can waggle as well!
• Help beekeepers extract fresh honey. And local beekeepers from The Wabash Valley Beekeepers club and the Clay County Beekeepers club will be on hand to talk bees, demonstrate beekeeping equipment, and sell some of their locally produced bee related products.
This day of fun is in collaboration with the Museum’s new exhibit, Bees, Butterflies & Blooms exhibit. Bees, Butterflies & Blooms focuses on the importance of protecting native plants and pollinators. It features an observation beehive, live butterfly enclosure, pollinator garden, interactive videos and family-focused educational play spaces. This interactive and educational exhibit captivates young minds while providing a unique opportunity to explore the fascinating world of pollinators and their vital role in our ecosystem.
The Bees, Butterflies & Blooms exhibit was produced by Kidzeum of Health and Science, in Springfield, Illinois and made possible locally by a grant from our title sponsor, TCC Gives. The Terre Haute Children’s Museum is excited to continue its outreach and partnership efforts with other Midwestern museums to bring new learning opportunities through exhibits focused around STEM.
Pollinator Palooza is included in general admission. Museum admission is $9 per person for ages 2 to 102. Museum members get in free. Tickets are available at https://www.thchildrensmuseum.com/hours-and-admission.html
