A thoughtful nonpartisan conversation with CPS Board leadership about the fundamentals of good school governance.
About this Event

What does effective school board governance look like? What should Chicagoans expect from the leaders making decisions for CPS?

As Chicago continues its historic transition to a fully elected Board of Education, the Civic Federation is bringing together current Board members for a timely, nonpartisan conversation about what it takes to govern the nation’s fourth-largest school district effectively.

On September 30, join us for Policy in Practice: Leading in a New Era — Effective Board Governance, a candid discussion about the responsibilities of Board members, the principles of good governance and the consequential decisions facing CPS. The conversation will also explore why effective school governance matters not only to CPS students and families, but to all Chicagoans.

The discussion will be moderated by Bridget Lee, Executive Director of the Academy for Local Leadership, and feature current Chicago Board of Education members:

  • Yesenia Lopez, District 7B
  • Angel Gutierrez, District 8A

With another Board election approaching, this is an opportunity to hear directly from experienced leaders about what effective governance looks like in practice—and what Chicago needs from its Board in this new era.
