Join us as we hand-harvest native seeds from Pohl Prairie, a 22-acre preserve next to Ames High School. The seeds collected will help diversify and expand the prairie ecosystem. We'll start the day with an introduction to Pohl Prairie and its unique environment before venturing out into the prairie.
Harvesting seeds can be done using your hands or clippers, gathering them into buckets and/or bags. This activity is beloved by our volunteers for its tranquility and the chance to connect more deeply with the prairie. It’s a wonderful opportunity to learn about and appreciate this special ecosystem. No experience necessary - we'll show you what and how to collect!
