Poetry Writing Workshop with Doug Knowlton

This year's Creative Encounters is a Poetry Writing Workshop that employs Beginner's Mind to free one's inner poet. The workshop will meet in the loft at Bookstore1Sarasota, 117 S. Pineapple Ave, for five sessions, Wednesdays, 4-6 p.m., August 7, 14, 21, 28, and September 4.

Registration is required. The workshop cost is $40 and includes all five sessions. The cost will cover a copy of the text Poetry Home Repair Manual: Practical Advice for Beginning Poets by Ted Kooser if you don't already have one.

Doug Knowlton is the workshop facilitator.

About the Facilitator:

Doug has been writing poems and lyrics since the 1960s. His love of poetry was reignited as he participated in readings around the Orlando area from 1996 to 1999. He emceed the open mic at Java N'Jive Coffee House in Palmetto from 2002 to 2003. He was a regular at the Fogartyville Cafe Open Mic (Bradenton) from 2002 to 2005 and hosted the Village Bookshop Poets and Writers from 2006 to 2011. Doug finds it especially fulfilling to encounter readers and listeners who are awakening to poetry's vast potential.
