About this Event

Cultured Books Literacy Foundation presents “Poetry on the Deuces,” an interactive community event that connects local history, literature, and the arts. Designed to highlight the significance of Historic 22nd Street as a cultural and historical landmark in St. Petersburg’s African American community, the event invites participants to embark on a walking tour, engage in a communal reading of Dream Street by Tricia Elam Walker and Ekua Holmes, and take part in a creative workshop. Through poetry and collage art, attendees will explore how landmarks like Historic 22nd Street shape personal and communal identities.
Participation is free and open to the community, but this registration is required. The National Humanities Center's funding and support from Deuces Live and the African American Heritage Association of St. Petersburg make this event possible.
As part of the “Being Human Festival US,” which runs from April 14 to April 28, “Poetry on the Deuces” is one of 19 community events supported by the National Humanities Center across the country. This festival celebrates the humanities' capacity to enhance our understanding of ourselves, connect us, and illuminate the complexities of today's world.
