Attention POETS and Poetry lovers! Gallery 12 has created a brand new event to bring artists and writers together for a fun night of Poetry in the Gallery.
Join us during the closing reception of Bob Benson's show Haiku and Color as Kansas Author's Club member Janice Northerns, leads us in an exercise in writing Ekphrastic poems. Ekphrastic poetry is a poem written in response to a piece of artwork. After hearing some examples, each poet will be asked to browse the artwork in the gallery and choose one piece in which to write a response. Afterwards there will be an opportunity for everyone to share what they have written. It could be serious, funny, clever or just plain awkward- we won't judge! Then stick around to read all the wonderful haiku that Bob Benson has written to enhance his photographic work on display in the front gallery. In collaboration with Dr. Elaine Yarbrough, Bob has worked to create meaningful haikus to help deepen the viewer's experience in the gallery. This show explores photography as an art form that has become a visual diary of his life. He defines his style of art as a way to communicate values, beliefs, and perspectives on beauty and the simplicity of haiku compliments it perfectly.
All writers from novice to professional are encouraged to participate. Light refreshments will be served.
