This is a two-day festival! Here is just a snapshot of the events planned.
April 5th- Beginning at 10 am - curated poetry readings will be all day. Workshops will include reading circles with the FLASH MOB and more. Information tables and engagement activities will include WRITE THROUGH ME and more, including raffles and snacks.
The day will begin with an opening from the library and Shore Poets staff, including Paula Curci, former Nassau County Poet Laureate. Followed by readings from Lindamichelle Baron, the Current Poet Laureate of the Town of Hempstead, and Anissa Moore, the Deputy County Executive of Health and Human Services, Nassau County. Followed by a performance of the classics from Jay Jii - The Purveyor of the Poetic Cabaret!
A full day of readings will include some notables - Rita Monte, poet and international radio host of Profumi D'Italia on WHPC, and Adriana Devers-author and Director of Cuentas de Triada, and Gary Jansen Chopra, mediation instructor poet and author.
Poets from The Scene, the Caribbean American Poetry Association, AND SO MANY MORE will be reciting throughout the day.
An afternoon performance sponsored by the Acoustic Poets Network will include Jessica Payes, AKA Stronger Than My Pain, Uncle Dre, and Jay Vegas from Poem Stars Entertainment.
There will be TWO open mics. The Shore Poets Open Mic at 3 Hosted by Peter V. Dugan, former Nassau County Poet Laureate, and Jim Coulter, From the Grumpy Grampa Channel, and another at 7pm hosted by Alan Semerdjian, Nassau County Poet Laureate, featuring Deborah Hauser, the current Suffolk County Poet Laureate.
April 6th will begin with the showing of the POETRY IN MOTION film by Gregory Cioffi, highlighting 12 Long Island contemporary poets, followed by a Q and A. Several more workshops will follow, including Poetry and Pose (that's Yoga), How to Self Publish, and more.
